B12 deficiency seen in metformin-treated diabetes patients

A study in Diabetes Care found 5.8% of metformin-treated type 2 diabetes patients age 50 or older developed B12 deficiency, compared with only 2.4% of those who were nonusers and 3.3% of those without diabetes. Over-the-counter supplements did not correct the biochemical deficiency in the diabetes patients, the researchers said.
