BOEM: Planned Gulf lease sales will curb U.S. energy imports

Ten proposed offshore oil and natural gas lease sales will lessen the country's dependence on energy imports, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said in a draft environmental study. The draft report's release was "an important step" in the implementation of the U.S. government's offshore-leasing program, said BOEM Director Tommy Beaudreau. The study focused on the central and western portions of the Gulf of Mexico.
