Thyroid function in RA patients linked to metabolic syndrome

A study in Amsterdam found rheumatoid arthritis patients with low thyroid function have a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome and an increased risk for cardiovascular disease compared with RA patients with normal thyroid function. The researchers say the study shows a need for better cardiovascular care for patients with hypothyroid rheumatoid arthritis.
