Fla. high school enhances math curriculum with algebra tutors

Lake Wales High School Principal Donna Dunson has investigated many high-achieving schools, including ones in poor and struggling communities, to see what she could apply at her Florida school. One of the priorities she said she has learned is the importance of students doing well in Algebra I. With the help of a private donation, she has hired college students and school alums to work as tutors and organized a program that will enhance algebra instruction. "Algebra is a gateway course for professionals," she said.
