Alabama State University president agrees to resign

Lawyers representing Alabama State University and its president, Joseph Silver, have reached an agreement for Silver to resign and receive $685,000. Silver, who had held the president's job for 13 weeks, will step down Sunday. He has agreed to cooperate with any "pending and/or subsequent audit, investigation or lawsuit involving his employment" at the university, according to the agreement. Silver has raised questions about contracts at the university, which is undergoing audits commissioned by the state and the university's auditing firm.
