Cable executives at the Broadband Plus conference yesterday said deployment of VOD services will be important to competing with new DVR services from satellite providers. With cable bills on the rise, companies must focus on making VOD services easier to use, the executives said.
Price is one of the major hang-ups for broadband Internet service, with costs running about $40 to $50 per month. About 15% of American households subscribe to the service, with only about 33% of households projected to have it by the end of 2006.
Sci-Fi's Steven Spielberg-produced miniseries racked up 6 million viewers on its opening night Monday, notching the largest audience in the network's history. Sci-Fi was the most-watched cable network on the night.
