USA Network's contract to air the annual eco-challenge competition will come to an end after this year's May 5 to 7 competition in Fiji, Mark Burnett's Eco-Challenge Productions has confirmed. Burnett says he is trying to negotiate a carriage deal with a "major, not cable, network."
Stuart Carter, managing director of Pioneer Productions, a U.K. independent producer, says converting factual programming to entertainment can work, but only if the broadcaster is willing to invest and fully fund the program.
Streaming media company RealNetworks agreed to purchase online music outfit Listen.com for $36 million. The deal gives Real control of Listen's Rhapsody music service, which is likely to be combined with RealOne SuperPass, a subscription service that offers news, sports and entertainment content.
