Women's chances of developing depression for the first time significantly increase in the period just prior to menopause called perimenopause, a new study says. Women who experience hot flashes are especially at risk for depression during the perimenopausal period, and a study showed perimenopausal women were three times more likely than premenopausal women to develop symptoms of major depression.
