Panoramic X-rays used for dental purposes can have the added benefit of helping doctors screen women for osteoporosis, a new study says. The X-rays can show low skeletal bone mineral density in the jaw, and researchers in Japan found dental X-rays for women who otherwise had no symptoms of osteoporosis were just as sensitive as questionnaires in determining which patients were likely to have early stages of the disease.
