A novel new osteoporosis medication that can be taken just once a month reflects a growing interest in developing medications for chronic conditions that don't need to be taken every day. Compliance is often a problem with daily medications, and the new osteoporosis drug, Boniva, is beneficial because the daily version of the bisphosphonate drug class needs to be taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water with no food for 30 to 60 minutes.
