Fractures to the vertebrae, the most common bone break indicating osteoporosis in the elderly, are commonly overlooked in chest X-rays, according to a new study. Canadian researchers looking at hundreds of chest X-rays found one in six elderly patients had "clinically important vertebral fractures," but only about 60% of those were noted in the patients' files and only 25% were diagnosed or treated for osteoporosis.
