The Starr Foundation plans to give $50 million to three New York City medical institutions for embryonic stem cell research. An official of Cornell University's Weill Medical College, one of the recipients, said the money would ease the threat of New York losing its leadership and top scientists to other countries and California. Weill is to collaborate on research projects with fellow recipients Rockefeller University and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
