A&P is offering discounts as high as 15% on future receipts based on purchases made using a store loyalty card. The retailer also is highlighting its private-label America's Choice brand with shelf tags that read, "I-want-to-hug-the-manager low prices" and "I-can't-believe-my-eyes low prices."
Christian Haub, A&P's executive chairman, says the company and its banners will continue to evolve with its Pathmark integration, talks of new store formats and the introduction of private-label lines.
The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company has named Douglas Palmer vice president of its own brands, responsible for growing A&P's private-label business. Palmer, a former Safeway executive, helped build the Safeway "O" line of private-label organic foods.
