The FDA said OTC nasal decongestants no longer will be allowed to cite "sinusitis" on their products after determining there is no evidence the drugs are effective as a substitute for antibiotics, the normal treatment for a bacterial infection. In addition to drugs for colds and allergies, new regulations also are to apply to topical decongestants and nasal sprays, as well as to combination products and to generic versions of those drugs.
