The Little River Casino Resort in Manistee, Mich., was named as the casino of the year by the International Entertainment Buyers Association. The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians owns the tribal casino, and the tribe is considering building a second casino in Fruitport Township, Mich., using the same model.
Michigan's renewable-electricity standard, which requires utilities to generate at least 10% of their power from renewable sources by 2015, is prompting a number of renewable-power projects in the state, according to Judy Palnau, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Public Service Commission. Meanwhile, Consumers Energy has put on hold plans for a coal-fired power plant in Hampton Township, Mich., due to lack of demand, the company said.
Leprino Foods is asking Allendale Township in western Michigan for help in getting tax exemptions as an incentive to build an $83 million, 90,000-square-foot plant expansion at its existing 250,000-square-foot facility. The Denver-based company supplies mozzarella cheese to major pizza chains that include Domino's, Papa John's and Pizza Hut.
