Spending even small amounts of money can lead to the prevention of thousands of deaths in disaster situations if the funds go to the right place, according to a report released yesterday by the relief agency Christian Aid. Catastrophic incidents are occurring at an increased rate this decade, but the Christian Aid report said one lesson people can take away from the disasters of 2005 is that we "can ensure that natural disasters do not have these unnatural, and terrible, consequences."
