Firefighters in Texas have worked to contain most major wildfires there, but the threat of flare-ups and new fires remains high due to heat, low humidity and wind in the forecast, a National Weather Service "red flag warning" indicated. More than half a million acres and more than 500 homes have now been consumed by wildfires in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, as bone-dry conditions persist.
