A CNET special report investigates the ever-increasing amount of money flowing to 501c3 nonprofit groups that claim to represent the public interest on Capitol Hill. According to CNET, 47 organizations active in technology policy and legislation have combined assets totaling about $1.1 billion, with annual revenue of $573 million. The numbers raise some thorny questions about the ability of companies to buy influence via large contributions to such nonprofits, but one group's president said he resists allowing donors to drive policy positions.
