Consumption of a small amount of pecans each day could help lower the risk of heart disease, according to a new study. Researchers found that even a handful of pecans a day helped increase levels of gamma tocopherol concentrations in the blood and lowered a marker of lipid oxidation, and they believe the high levels of vitamin E in pecans could be at play.
As consumer groups and federal agencies increasingly rally against trans fats, alternatives to partially hydrogenated soybean oil are growing more popular. Asoyia LLC, which makes an alternative soybean oil, says Campbell Soup Co., among others, is using its product, while 50 other food companies, including Sara Lee and H.J. Heinz Co., are testing the oil.

The review notes the store's wider aisles, color-schemed merchandise and "fill-in" items such as cordless phones and dishwashing liquid, as well as the free bottled water for customers in the pharmacy waiting area.
