Price Chopper is launching a discount program that will give dime-per-gallon credits to customers for every $50 they spend. Customers must use the the store's AdvantEdge card to be eligible for the credits. The gas discounts are available at participating Sunoco stations in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and can be used over a three-month period.
As consumer groups and federal agencies increasingly rally against trans fats, alternatives to partially hydrogenated soybean oil are growing more popular. Asoyia LLC, which makes an alternative soybean oil, says Campbell Soup Co., among others, is using its product, while 50 other food companies, including Sara Lee and H.J. Heinz Co., are testing the oil.
Chain Drug Review analyzes the new CVS in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., noting its emphasis on health and beauty items, unique layout and new products such as snake bite kits and Burt's Bees products. The review notes the store's wider aisles, color-schemed merchandise and "fill-in" items such as cordless phones and dishwashing liquid, as well as the free bottled water for customers in the pharmacy waiting area.
