The Watchman device, a tiny mesh-covered metal brace, may revolutionize treatment of atrial fibrillation, according to doctors who have used the device in a study of 250 patients. The device, threaded through a vein, seals off the small portion of the heart that acts as a staging area for blood clots that can travel to the brain and cause stroke. So far, 97% of those with the implant have been able to eliminate use of the problematic blood-thinning drug Coumadin.
