Sling Media has debuted a Roku channel, enabling users to watch live or recorded television on a mobile device or another TV in the house with the SlingPlayer mobile application. The EchoStar subsidiary also introduced the SlingPlayer 3.0 client for the iPad tablet computer, which offers a split-screen navigation feature.
Sling Media has widened the base for its Slingplayer application by introducing an app for Facebook members to use. The company previously made Slingplayer available on Android, iOS, Mac OS X and Windows, along with offering a Web-based app.
Sony, which launched the PlayStation 3 in 2006, is at work on a PlayStation 4 gaming platform, according to Masaru Kato, Sony's executive vice president and chief financial officer. Kato let the tidbit slip recently while trying to justify increased research and development spending to investors.
Sling Media reportedly plans to launch support for Symbian and Palm for its SlingPlayer, Engadget reports. A Sling insider revealed the release of a Symbian version within a month's time and the Palm client in the fourth quarter, Engadget says.
