Amazon.com logged more than 4 million orders on Dec. 11, which bested the online retailer's previous one-day holiday record of 3.6 million a year ago. Online orders ranged from Xbox 360 consoles and iPods to cold-fighting supplements and DVDs.
Pagers are quickly becoming another dinosaur of the technology world since mobile phones have taken over. Nearly 45 million pagers were in use nationwide in 1999, compared with only 7.4 million in 2006.
Motorola on Monday launched a pair of headphones for the South Korean market that are compatible with 1.2-Bluetooth-version mobile phones. The H700 mono headphone is equipped with a chip that eliminates echoes and noises, and the HT820 stereo headphone supports both headset and hands-free connectivity to Bluetooth phones and lets users switch from listening music to answering calls.
CBS is making video clips previewing its fall primetime lineup available to anyone with a Bluetooth-enabled mobile device that passes within 36 feet of a technologically enhanced billboard. CBS marketing group president George Schweitzer said, "We are very aggressive in trying to find new forms of reaching the consumer in unexpected places."
