Bashas' Supermarkets will team with MediMin to develop in-store health clinics at its Food City and Ike's Marketplace stores in Arizona. The clinics will be staffed with certified nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Walgreen Co. is in a deal to buy Take Care Health Systems as the chain continues to increase patient services offered in stores. Walgreen competitor CVS bought in-store operator MinuteClinic in 2006, and Wal-Mart stores has plans to open up to 400 in-store clinics in the next two to three years.
Procter & Gamble has partnered with Wal-Mart to launch Prism, which uses infrared sensors to measure consumer exposure to in-store digital media and other promotional displays. Prism will be rolled out in Wal-Mart and other retail outlets by early next year.
In a nostalgic reference to Kmart's classic Blue Light Special, which dates back to 1965, the company has developed a new spokescharacter: Mr. Blue Light. "We are injecting fresh ideas, fun and new products into Kmart, both in-store and online, and Mr. Bluelight is our expert on all things 'Kmart,'" said Bill Stewart, the company's chief marketing officer, in a statement.
Dairy divisions at Nestle and Danone report significant sales growth in so-called functional foods, including probiotic yogurt drinks and powdered milk fortified with omega-3 fatty acids and calcium. Nestle's CEO says the company will focus more on developing health-oriented products; its "added-value" dairy products outperformed overall first-quarter growth at the firm.
