AT&T's U-verse has replaced MTV Networks' Urge music channels with Music Choice -- after dropping that service in 2007 -- and added an interactive application from Music Choice that allows viewers to choose from 46 types of musical genres. U-verse also debuted SWRV, a linear music-video service that allows viewers to make their own playlists and comment on others' choices. Music Choice will also launch an on-demand service on U-verse later in the year.
AT&T will introduce digital-telephone service to accompany its U-verse network in Connecticut today, only the second market where it has combined video and voice services. AT&T's VoIP customers can integrate land-line phones with high-speed Internet, cell phone and their U-verse services.
AT&T's U-verse service, which delivers TV programs over an Internet connection, hit a snag over the weekend when an outage affected all 33 markets in which it is available. AT&T is still investigating the U-verse glitch.
Qualcomm on Thursday opened the first of 15 planned Last Mile Initiative Centers in India. The centers, operating under the Easy Seva brand name, will support entrepreneurial development of 3G communications in rural India.
AT&T's U-verse and Internet customers can now use their wireless phones and other devices to remotely program their DVRs. AT&T announced that the mobile functions include the ability to search U-verse's program listings, schedule program recordings and manage DVR content.
