As their populations age and their real estate booms, pricing out many younger people, traditional LGBT meccas like San Francisco's Castro, Key West, Fla., and West Hollywood in Los Angeles have become much less gay, although they still hold much symbolic import for both residents and visitors alike. The changes in these enclaves reflect greater levels of acceptance of LGBT people in other parts of the country.
