A $516 billion spending bill in Congress allocates $513 million for the FDA's food-safety programs. Although the budget is 12% higher than what the agency received for fiscal 2007, a coalition that includes GMA/FPA believes the increase is not enough "in light of soaring imports and declining consumer confidence." The coalition has asked for 15% annual increases for the next five years.
