The White House has requested a $130 million increase in FDA funding, with most of it intended for food-safety initiatives and monitoring drugs and medical devices already on the market. About $42.2 million of the increase is earmarked for food-safety measures that focus on preventing food-borne diseases. The FDA also plans to establish offices overseas, particularly in China, to boost production safeguards for food products imported into the U.S.
