A team from the CDC and the FDA has been sent to Honduras to the inspect cantaloupe growing and packing plants that exported melons linked to cases of salmonella in the U.S., HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt said Thursday. The FDA's ban on cantaloupe imports would result in "devastating losses of jobs and income within a critical sector of our economy," wrote the Honduran secretary of agriculture and livestock in a letter addressed to Leavitt.
