Telecom Italia will refocus on expansion as part of management's new strategic plan, with a special eye toward making acquisitions in Asia and Africa, according to an Italian business publication. The report said CEO Franco Bernabe would avoid markets in which it would compete with new shareholder Telefonica SA.
Freenet AG, which said last week that it wanted to sell its DSL broadband business, will split that division off from its portal unit, the Frankfurt, Germany, company said, adding that its management and supervisory board had agreed to the move.
Embarq has announced that Tom Gerke has been named CEO of the telecom-services provider. Gerke, 51, has been holding down the top spot on an interim basis since December, when former CEO Dan Hesse moved to Sprint Nextel.
