Widespread use of two shots of the mumps vaccine manufactured by Merck & Co. did not prevent a U.S. outbreak of the disease in 2006. Of young adults who became ill, 84% had received the recommended two doses, CDC experts reported Wednesday. The findings suggest a better vaccine or changes in policy "may be needed to avert future outbreaks and achieve the elimination of mumps," the experts said.
