The city-state of Abu Dhabi is planning to build a $22 billion town run entirely on renewal energy with zero carbon emissions. Officials say the 50,000 residents of Masdar will get 82% of their power from the sun, 17% from burning composted food waste and 1% from wind turbines. Instead of cars, residents will get around using light rail and "personal rapid transport pods" powered by photovoltaic panels.
