Suburban Atlanta is getting a new residential development that backers say will be the first in the nation to qualify for LEED's platinum certification. The solar-powered homes are designed to use two-thirds less energy than traditional homes, and excess power will go back on the grid, creating a "solar community of net-zero energy homes," according to the developer. Sensors and monitors will be built into the houses to track their energy usage, with the data analyzed by Georgia Power and Kennesaw State University.
