Coal helps China boost output of plastics

China has the world's third-largest coal reserves, and it is using those resources to boost its output of chemicals used to make plastics. China is exploring liquefaction of the hydrocarbon to make chemicals, and late last year it finished its first coal-to-liquids plant. The plant had an initial capacity of 20,000 barrels per day. Meanwhile, China has altered its tariff structure for coal exports.
