Dutch researchers were able to detect more sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer patients by using SPECT/CT compared to conventional lymphoscintigraphy. SPECT/CT also proved useful in visualizing the exact anatomical location of the sentinel nodes. One researcher noted that 3-D SPECT/CT could provide "even better anatomical insight into the precise location of the sentinel node" versus the 2-D device that was used in the study.
