U.S. researchers have developed a technique to detect juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia -- a rare type of the disease -- within a few hours rather than weeks. The method, which is based on flow cytometry, uses fluorescent-tagged antibodies to identify and organize cells that have the STAT5 protein in patients with the disease. The approach may prove useful in evaluating the efficacy of potential drug therapies against JMML and other conditions, researchers said.
