The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has awarded an exclusive contract to Siemens Healthcare to develop a prototype of the Deep Bleeder Acoustic Coagulation cuff -- an ultrasound hemorrhage treatment device designed to limit blood loss and minimize shock in combat situations. Siemens Healthcare said it will work with the University of Washington's Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound, Texas A&M University's Institute for Preclinical Studies and Siemens Corporate Research to complete the prototype in 18 months.
