It should cost about $50 per ton for permits to release carbon dioxide into the air in order to make technology to capture carbon viable, according to a London School of Economics professor. That cost is about three times the current price in Europe, but it would help projects that capture and safely bury CO2 underground to be developed in an effort to reduce emissions of the global warming gas, professor Nicholas Stern said at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
