The Metropolitan Transportation Authority plans to spend $497 million of federal stimulus funds to finish the Fulton Street Transit Center in Lower Manhattan, which is behind schedule and over budget. The project, now expected to cost up to $1.4 billion, was originally estimated at $750 million. MTA would also use the funds to build a dramatic glass building on top of the transit hub, located a block away from the World Trade Center site.
