GE-Hitachi announced Wednesday a license application has been submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for Global Laser Enrichment to build and operate a plant in North Carolina. GLE said it should decide later this year whether it will go forward with the facility at Wilmington. GLE intends to use laser excitation, instead of a centrifuge, to separate uranium-235 from uranium-238.
