The HHS created the Office of Recovery Act Coordination, which is responsible for the distribution of about $137 billion in health care spending under the stimulus package. The funding includes $19 billion for health information technology and $155 million for setting up community clinics. Dennis Williams, former deputy administrator of the agency's Health Resources and Services Administration, will head the office.
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle hosted the first White House regional health forum in Michigan. President Barack Obama recognizes the economic and "moral imperative" to overhaul the health care system, said Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes. The White House is set to hold forums in other states, including Vermont and California, in the coming weeks.
Researchers used FDG-PET/CT to evaluate maximum standardized uptake value, total lesion glycolysis and changes between the two measurements in patients with osteosarcoma before and after initial chemotherapy.
The research "comes definitively on the side of PET/CT being able to predict survival, which means that one can theoretically modify the therapy ahead of time, instead of waiting for the tumor to not respond to typical therapies," the lead researcher said.
