A team of international researchers has created a global map that could help identify places with the biggest threat of malaria using data from about 8,000 local surveys of infection rates. The map showed that more than half of the at-risk population in Africa live in areas where controlling and eradicating the disease is technically possible. The researchers plan to update the map every year to monitor efforts against the disease and to pinpoint where investment is needed.
