Women surf the Web more frequently and are more transactional with their activities than men, who tend to log more time online and are likely to watch videos, according to a report from eMarketer. But not all online behavior conforms to easy gender breakdowns. "I would say for every situation where you think a trend may be confirming a stereotype, there seems to be another counterintuitive trend that might emerge as well," said Mary Madden, a senior research specialist at the Pew Internet & American Life Project.
