Analysts believe that North Korea's nuclear test and short-range missile deployment may be an effort to shore up support among North Korea's military establishment for an ailing Kim Jong-il, who is expected to transfer power to the youngest of his three sons. Kim Jong-il inherited his authority from his father, Kim Song Il-sung, who founded North Korea. Analysts believe that the military has garnered more power since a stroke prompted speculation about the status of Kim Jong-il's administration.
