North Carolina homeowners should start adding potassium, or potash, to their lawns in the fall to prepare for the harsh winter weather, writes Charlotte Glen. She notes that potassium increases resistance to diseases and improves hardiness. Homeowners should also reduce the amount of water used on their lawns as the temperatures start to cool, she says. Applying pre-emergent herbicides next month can also stop weeds from sprouting up, Glen says.
