U.S. researchers have developed six types of white blood cell from embryonic stem cells that could aid in the research of cancer and other diseases. The immediate use of the cells will be in the safety screening of drugs in development, the lead researcher said. Future work could pave the way for the development of new blood cells from a patient's own body that could be used as an alternative to bone marrow transplants, the researchers said.
