The federal transportation act, which funds highways and mass transit, will expire on Sept. 30. The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure would like to reauthorize the act for another six years with $450 billion in funding. However, both the Obama administration and the Senate are pushing to extend the current act by 18 months instead. "The big issue that's holding up progress on the bill is the revenue issue," Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Ill., said. "Right now, there are different proposals that have been offered on how to provide the extra funding," but "there's no consensus on which one to follow."
