Virginia Uranium has agreed to finance a study designed to gauge whether it is safe to mine and mill 119 million pounds of uranium ore deposit in the state, said Delegate Terry Kilgore, chairman of the Virginia Coal and Energy Commission. The first part of the research would look into the public-safety and technical aspects of mining and milling, Kilgore said, while the second portion would concentrate on determining socioeconomic effects of the process.
