Plunging commodities prices have grocers continuing to lower prices. Competition for customers will continue to drive down grocery prices this fall, a departure from the trend a few years ago to market gourmet items and amenities.
A Safeway campaign for "thousands of new everyday low prices" features price labels with a new, lower price and the older price crossed out. The program builds on a value emphasis introduced earlier this year with ceiling signs that read, "Low prices on what you buy most."
Researchers found no link between brain tumors, or glioma, and the nitrates and nitrites present in fruit, vegetables and processed meats. Their findings contradict earlier claims that the additives contribute to the production of nitrosamine compounds, which might increase the risk of glioma.
