This is set to be a remarkably busy week for IPOs on Wall Street, and REITs are a part of the reason. There is a huge demand for capital in the commercial real estate sector, and it isn't being filled by the banks, life insurance companies or the CMBS market, which is essentially dead. The capital markets see an opportunity for REITs to fill the void, said Jamie Woodwell, vice president of commercial real estate research for the Mortgage Bankers Association.
