High-rise office buildings designed by African architect Mick Pearce use passive systems for climate controls that were inspired by termite mounds. Pearce took note of the fact that termite mounds maintain a stable temperature by making use of air currents. Pearce incorporated the principles into his buildings, which include deep overhangs, building mass and limited glazing to minimize heat gain.
